Magickal Resistance: Using Witchcraft To Fight The Power
Magick exists to make desired changes. In many cases, various magickal practices were created out of the need to take a stand against oppression or to improve the quality of the lives of folks in communities in some form or another. Historically speaking, magick has consistently been used as a form of activism. There are a lot of practitioners out there who claim that using your magick to fight the powers that be is a waste of time and energy. They fear monger and espouse the belief that it will actually come back on you. That is, in my opinion, hogwash. You just need to be smart and strategic about your actions.
There is more than one way to use your Magick to fight the power. A great place to start is protection work. Specifically focusing on members of your own communities. Protection spells, protection charms, these things can be really helpful for black and brown folks and lgbtqia+ folks. Protection goes beyond spiritual protection. Protect your folks from the impacts of harmful policies. Protect your folks from the law when protesting or attending public events. Protect your folks from mass tragedies.
A simple charm bag to protect folks from law enforcement like ICE, the police, the Feds, etc. is as follows:
Supplies:
Asafoetida
celandine
black mustard seed
white cloth
protection oil like our Wall Of Protection Spell Oil
red twine
hair from the person the spell is for
leather twine
Cleanse everything. Place herbs and hair in white cloth. Pray for protection from the law. Bless the herbs to confuse, confound, and repel the law. Add 8 drops of protection oil. Wrap cloth with red twine while repeating a prayer of safety and protection. Tie a leather cord around the charm bag and wear as a necklace under your shirt.
Create a Law Stay Away Oil to anoint yourself and others during protests or for other purposes. Add the following herbs into some castor oil: fennel, agrimony, elder, devil’s shoestring, bergamot, myrrh, calendula, and dill. Pass through the flame of a burning protection candle. Allow to cold infuse for two weeks before using. You can use this to ward off law suits, legal issues, and to get the law or authorities out of your business.
Truly you can use magick to tackle any important issue. You can craft and cast spells to help with racial justice, women's rights, LGBTQ rights, antifascism, environmentalism, immigration, refugee support, and more. You can also implement power mapping to asses who, what, when, and how of how you might use magick to fight the power of a group, organization, or systemic structure. This is especially helpful if you are working in a group or coven.
